Although it's not the most innovative campaign in the AoE franchise, it still offers an entertaining experience that fans will be enjoying for years to come.Unlike previous expansion packs, The African Kingdoms adds four civilizations instead of five. It presents a diverse set of challenges while giving players insight into the life and times of the controversial English king. The Edward Longshanks campaign is a great addition to Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition's story mode. Lords of the West is definitely worth its price tag, but don't expect innovative features in the Longshanks campaign. The Lords of the West DLC puts the Sicilian and Burgundian civilizations at its forefront while sidelining the English king. There is a lot to love, but long-time players looking for something new might find the Longshanks' campaign a bit disappointing.
